JOB AND HIS GOD PROBLEM 1
March 1, 2026
To be sure, the book of Job is about suffering but it also depicts spiritual warfare. Initially the book makes the reader believe they are in a philosophical discussion about why people suffer but by the end of the book it is clear that the purpose is to show true faith as trust in the Lord, how He runs things, and how deeply He is involved in our lives. We never get an answer to the “why” question of suffering, and neither does Job. In point of fact, just asking the “why” question presupposes that we are the moral judge above God. We cannot know what is happening in the back story, we cannot know God’s purpose. But we can know that “there will be trials,” that God is good ALWAYS, He has a plan, and that He will not give us anything we cannot handle WITH His help. God is always listening, always cares, and is always working to make us better people and bring us closer to Him. The book of Job brings all this to light and as Joe discusses in his analysis of the book beginning with this sermon.
